BDI was hired to design a replacement lift station at an upland location near the existing lift station site, which was in a flood plain along Jones Creek between Patton Drive and Pensacola State College. The station site development included a concrete drive and gravel yard, surrounded by secure fencing, and finished by landscaping to better blend the facility into the surrounding environment.
The project includes the construction of a new or upgraded collector gravity sewer that intercepts from the north, south, east, and west. Several existing gravity sewer lines to the existing lift station were compromised due to age, exposed location within the creek bed, and antiquated material of construction such as clay pipe. Construction also included the installation of a replacement 24” sanitary sewer from approximately 2,000’ west of the site, allowing for capacity to connect an existing neighborhood to gravity sewer, resulting in a reduction of groundwater nutrient loading from septic tanks. Additionally, a new force main was designed and constructed to replace an asbestos cement force main that was at the end of its service life.
