The project was divided into two phases. Phase 1 included the evaluation of feasible alternatives related to sidewalk locations, right-of-way needs, and drainage. Three options were presented to the City of Pensacola and Option 2 was selected as their preferred alternative. Phase 2 included the design of the sidewalks based on the selected Phase 1 alternative. The project area begins at the Burgess Road/Davis Highway intersection and ends at Lanier Drive, inclusive of the Lanier Drive stormwater pond.
The project included the design of sidewalks, curb and gutter, and drainage design that includes drainage sub-basin delineations, conveyance systems, inlet capacities, and gutter spread evaluations. Existing ditch bottom inlets will be modified or replaced, as needed, to accommodate the drainage design. Utility impacts included valve box/junction box grade adjustments and re-routing water mains around the new drainage structures.
The project goal is to enhance walkability and pedestrian safety with the installation of sidewalks and an updated drainage system along the Burgess Road Corridor.
