Berthe Avenue Bridge and Associated Infrastructure

BDI provided design and survey for the City of Callaway project to remove the deteriorated culvert crossing and replace it with a new reinforced concrete slab on pre-stressed concrete beam bridge. The replacement will include a renewed roadway approach section, concrete barrier, sidewalk, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) approved guard railing. With the bridge replacement, the existing northbound gravity sewer main (east right-of-way (ROW) of culvert invert), northbound water main, and southbound force main will be removed and replaced in order to meet new FDOT bridge standards. This 62K square foot project will also address the piping of an existing ditch system along the west ROW of Berthe Avenue (between the bridge crossing and Fox Lake Drive) to prevent ongoing erosion and coordinate with the proposed lift station placement and design.

Direct benefits resulting from this project will be the overall improvement of area drainage by providing more efficient crossing hydraulics and increased crossing safety for motorists and pedestrians. Other benefits will include the removal of a potentially hazardous existing gravity sewer main from within the crossing waterway by the design and construction of alternate upland sewer connections.
