Project Information

This project is part of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) National Coastal Resiliency Fund Project “Escambia County Dune Matrix Enhancement.” Activities will include the installation of native dune vegetation along the seaward edge of the primary dune, and select locations.

The goal of this project is to restore and protect critical beach and dune habitats on Perdido Key, as part of ongoing efforts to support local wildlife, including the Perdido Key Beach Mouse and Loggerhead Sea Turtle.

The project will focus on enhancing the existing dune system, improving the habitat for protected species. The project will include monitoring before, during, and after the restoration to ensure its success. This includes measuring beach conditions like shoreline position, beach width, and dune volume. After the work is completed, there will be a year-long monitoring period to track progress and ensure that the restoration meets environmental goals.

This project supports conservation efforts to maintain healthy nesting habitats for endangered species and protect the natural beauty of Perdido Key for future generations. The work is part of a broader effort to ensure that our local ecosystems thrive.
